Thanks for the hookup, X. This is still something I'm dying to go to, but we'll see how tight cash is...

In the covered grandstands at the start/finish. I'll be doing a lot of walking around during the 3 days though.

I've always liked turn 19 on the hill the best. Just a good view of the final turns. I can't wait for MotoGP again though. Was awesome last year and F1 has been great the last two years as well.

Where's a good place to stay that's relatively close to the track?
I'm still deciding if I want to ride or drive.

You start the game with a full pot of luck and an empty pot of experience. The object is to fill the pot of experience before you empty the pot of luck.

Anywhere near the Airport area will be pretty close. The city of Buda is close as well. Downtown Austin is close as well and normally things are going on down town during the race.

Honestly, there are a lot of good spots. If you want to have a seat, turn 1 is a really good choice. Turn 15 gives you a view of a lot of the track. I walk around and watch practices and qualifying from multiple places.

I'm in the main grandstands near the start/finish line this time. I'll probably watch the start, then walk up toward turn one, then return for the finish. It only takes a minute to move from one to the other.

A buddy of mine and I are looking at going. Turn 15 main and staying at the La Quinta near the airport. $99/night.

Thanks, X. Since you live there, where would you recommend staying. I'm mostly concerned about security because I may ride there.

I never stay in hotel/motels here, I'm not sure where would be best. Be sure to reserve something early though.

Gonna bump this.

As April gets closer in trying to figure out what to expect. Never been to a race before.

My buddy and I are flying out and renting a car. Staying near the airport.

What are some things to make sure to do/see and what should I avoid?

Wanna grab some shirts and things to wear around. Is it best to buy there or will prices be ridiculous. If so where is a good place to buy?

I love to eat, where should I go for sure while out there? As far as being at the track what should we do for food.

Anything from locals or members that went last year would be awesome. Thanks.

Went last year.

Others can chime in on things to do as when I was there I was exhausted and just spent time at the track and crashed at the hotel. I did enjoy County Line on the Lake BBQ. However plan to stay closer to 6th street this year and enjoy going out more.

If you want to pick up any merchandise at the race, it won't be cheap and if you wait till Sat./Sun. some of the stuff will be gone. There was zero Rossi merchandise available by Sunday, possibly even Sat. afternoon. So if you're wanting to get your pick of stuff, get it early.

Should we take food in or is there enough to eat there? Or is it all just 8 dollar hot dogs.

They check bags and take away food. You have to buy it inside. HUGE turkey legs and all kinds of eats. Nothing healthy though.

Perfect.

Also, is there metal detectors? Gonna fly armed and don't want to leave it in the room and don't want to be standing there at the entrance trying to explain to the mouth breather that's probably gonna be freaking out.

No metal detectors, just some people looking in backpacks and bags.

All the food there was really expensive too, as one might expect. I went all 3 days last year. Ate there on the first day and that was it. As a student on a budget, I wasn't paying that much for "ok" food all 3 days.

Give a man a fish and feed him for a day. Don't give a man a fish, and feed yourself. He's a grown man, fishing's not that hard.
