Yamaha Factory Racing will unveil its 2014 bike livery on Friday, as Jorge Lorenzo and Valentino Rossi travel to Indonesian capital Jakarta. The latest M1 has already been witnessed, in the pre-season test of Valencia that was staged after the season-closing Grand Prix of 2013. However, on that occasion Lorenzo and Rossi were using non-liveried machines. On Friday, representatives from the majority of Indonesia’s 5,000 Yamaha showrooms will be attending the presentation in Jakarta, as the Japanese brand looks to win back the MotoGP™ title last won by Lorenzo in 2012.

New factory Ducati World Superbike signing Chaz Davies will also take part in three MotoGP tests a year for the Italian factory.

As January draws to a close, so too will the MotoGP™ testing ban which will almost immediately signal the start of pre-season running in Malaysia and a critical period for teams and riders on the buildup to the new campaign.

There has been no MotoGP™ track action since the first Official Pre-Season Test for 2014 which immediately followed the final race of 2013 at Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit. Since then, the community has had some time to rest while developments continued behind the scenes across the months of December and January in which the official testing ban is in place.

The Sepang International Circuit will host the opening test session of the year for three days at the start of February, before the second gathering at the same venue will close the month and mark the final time before the Qatar Grand Prix that all premier class competitors share a race track. There will, however, be two more test outings before the first racing of the new season kicks off.

At the start of March, the official riders of factory outfits Repsol Honda Team, Yamaha Factory Racing and Ducati Team will take to Australia’s Phillip Island circuit for a three-day Tyre Safety Test in order to dial out difficulties suffered last year. That same week, the final pre-season action will come at Qatar’s Losail International Circuit – the same venue as the opening race – but minus Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa, Jorge Lorenzo, Valentino Rossi, Andrea Dovizioso and Cal Crutchlow who will have been present at Phillip Island. This Qatar gathering will present a final opportunity for those running new Open machinery to continue their development.

The intermediate and lightweight classes will not be stood still either, as Moto2™ and Moto3™ share Valencia’s Ricardo Tormo circuit from 10-13 February, plus two visits to the Circuito de Jerez on 18-20 February and 11-13 March, respectively. In the mix, Caterham will make more steps towards its much-awaited debut in Moto2™ (with Johann Zarco alongside American Josh Herrin) as Moto3™ sees the new Honda racer continuing its journey alongside the likes of the new Husqvarna marque.

2014 pre-season testing dates:

MotoGP™

4-6 Feb: Sepang, Malaysia

26-28 Feb: Sepang, Malaysia

3-5 Mar: Phillip Island, Australia (Tyre Safety Test)

7-9 Mar: Losail, Qatar

* Featuring factory team official riders only

Moto2™/Moto3™

11-13 Feb: Valencia, Spain

18-20 Feb: Jerez, Spain

11-13 Mar: Jerez, Spain

Jorge Lorenzo:
It’s always nice to come into a sunny country with happy people, especially Indonesia, a country that gets crazy about MotoGP. Both Vale and myself have a lot of fans. Everyone recognises us in the street and gives us a lot of love so it's a good place to promote Yamaha.
Every year this Asian market gets more and more important so our visits here increase. This time we decided to do the launch here, in front of thousands of Yamaha people. I like the new bike a lot, it's very smart and elegant with more white. It’s not just the colour though; I’m excited to see what’s inside the bike in Sepang!
My expectations for this season are very high. This winter I had an operation to take out the metal plates in my shoulder so I’m a bit lighter but I’m also a bit fatter after Christmas! I am training hard to lose some kilos and I will try to start the season well like last year and be straight onto the podium. This will be important to get points and gain confidence to keep going through the season. Our rivals will be tough but I think if we’ve improved in some areas then we have a good chance to win the title again.
When you are fast and winning races all the big factories want you, this is normal. I have to clarify that there is no truth in the rumours that there is a contract with another manufacturer and I would like to start negotiating as soon as possible for my future with Yamaha. My dream is to retire after my career as a Yamaha rider. If our bike is even better this year then it will be easier!

Valentino Rossi:
It’s always great to come to Indonesia. The Indonesians are the best fans in the world, with a lot of passion for MotoGP and the Yamaha Factory Team, even though they have no races in their country. Yamaha Indonesia plays a big role in Yamaha’s global business and I truly hope that Jorge’s and my presence here gives a further boost to their local business. This morning I had the pleasure and the honour to spend some time with Mr. Joko Widodo, Governor of Jakarta, and I could not have expected any better welcome to my arrival in Indonesia.
This season is very important for me and the fact that we officially start the season here in Jakarta makes it even more special. I can’t remember any previous unveiling by Yamaha made outside Europe, so today’s event was special for several reasons. Yamaha deliberately decided to offer the Indonesian dealers the chance to host the unveiling of the 2014 M1 during their big annual meeting here in Jakarta and this is another sign of the increasing importance of the SE Asian market for the global business. I truly hope to be able to race here again, very soon, before it’s too late!!
We unveiled the new livery for 2014 today; it’s very nice, very elegant and has more white than last year. It’s still very much in the Yamaha Factory style and I like it a lot.
The expectations for the coming season are very high. My target is to try and do better than last year, be more competitive and fight for the podium every weekend. I am sure our bike will be very competitive again. It was already very good last year and Yamaha engineers were able to develop it further through the season therefore I expect a lot from my new M1 and I am sure it will get even better during the season.

Found this from Motomatters.com
The 2014 season looks set to follow the pattern established in 2013, with Marc Marquez, Dani Pedrosa and Jorge Lorenzo likely to dominate. Of interest is the fact that Marc Marquez has been entered with number 93, rather than the number 1 which the world champion is allowed to use, but this may yet change before the start of the season. Marquez would dearly like to retain 93, but Honda is keen to see him run the number 1 plate.

Looking back, he accomplished something NOBODY thought he could do in his rookie year!!
How would Marc Marquez fare in MotoGP? It was the question on everybody's lips at the start of 2013, as the young Spaniard left the class he had dominated to play with the big boys. It would be Marquez' moment of truth: throughout his career in the junior classes, he had always been in the best teams. Many outside observers also claimed he had been on the best bike in Moto2. In 2013, Moto2 teams who had competed against him were free to concede that Marquez had won despite his Suter, not because of it.

Their words were backed by Marquez' action. Accepted wisdom holds that a rookie year is for learning, for getting to grips with a MotoGP bike, having a few big crashes, chasing the odd podium and maybe even a win. Marquez did all that and more, but how he did it marked him out as one of a kind. His first podium came in his first race, the Spaniard benefiting from problems Dani Pedrosa suffered with the dusty Qatar surface. His first win came a race later, smashing what would be one of many records in MotoGP. Youngest race winner, youngest champion, youngest rider to set a fastest lap, youngest polesitter, youngest back-to-back winner, youngest to win four races in a row, most wins as a rookie, most poles as a rookie, highest points total for a rookie; the list goes on and on. Marquez broke records held by Freddie Spencer, Kenny Roberts, Mike Hailwood. These are very big boots to fill, yet fill them he did.

Actually I meant predictions for the championship.

I don't like the new overly white livery on the M1, why couldn't they come up with something close to this:

I really think Marc can repeat, but will no doubt be tough. JL will be hungry. Last year the other riders were "ok who is this kid??" now then know lol, the element of "surprise" as you would have it is gone

My predictions:

Marquez/Lorenzo/Rossi of course I have to put him in there

I believe I will be watching BT Sport this year. Hoping it will be good coverage.

We did do a MotoGP challenge here one year, a few years back, there was a website. I can't remember who won though, I believe a vendor supplied a prize. If anyone is seriously interested I believe I have the link somewhere.

Lorenzo won more than Marquez last year! Injury is what kept Lorenzo from taking the top spot again! He lost the championship by 4 points! I think Marquez will definitely be a contender but will he take it? I doubt it! I think we could see pedrosa a little closer to the front! I wouldn't count Rossi out either! Hell with the new open category and new fuel regulations, it could be anyone's game!

Word on the street is Honda won't be running the seamless transmission, and Yamaha will be! They might have the advantage!

Where'd you hear that? I can't imagine they'd toss it unless they have some secret weapon to replace it with.
