WSBK questions

I got into watching WSBK towards the middle of last season and I'm not gonna miss any this season. I just watched race 2 at Philip Island and during a great race something happened to Laverty engine.

Now after this happened the announcers said something about only being allowed a certain amount of engines per season.

Could someone enlighten me upon exactly what they meant and the rules pertaining to blowing an engine?

Sorry for the newbness as I'm use to nascar where apparently there's no engine limits.

FIM has imposed an 8 engine limit on the teams this year. If Laverty's engine blew up, which sure seems likely, then he's already down to 7 left and it's only the second race. His team may have to dial back the power a bit to get more life out of each of the remaining engines or he won't make it to the end of the season. There are similar rules for MotoGP and those guys go to lot's of trouble to keep track of exactly how much an engine is used.

The gruesome details of the rules can be found here: http://www.fim-live.com/fileadmin/al...S_18022014.pdf

The relevant one in this case is probably this...

2.4.8 SBK Engine

The allocated number of engines per permanent rider is eight (8).

Enjoy every minute of life!

Current stable:
05 Honda CBR 600RR (track only)
06 BMW R1200 GS (sold)
08 Honda CBR 1000RR (street only)
12 BMW K1600GTL

IBA# 57849

Thanks for the info. That sucks for Laverty dudes a beast. He ran those apirlia down that first race. They mentioned he had a bone to pick with him since they didn't retain him cause he's not Italian. Should be a great season
