One of my bucket list tracks to ride on. I really hope Dani can bring something extra to this race and fight for the win.

I can see Dani maybe on the podium, but I just consider him a good safe bet for Honda to bring in points. I've had so much hope for him for so long but he seems to have really lost that competitive edge to push for the front pack.

I think part of it has to do with him lacking confidence in his own abilities as he's always ended up being second fiddle to his teammate. Some will say because he sucks compared to Rossi/Stoner/Marquez/Hayden but the guy is incredibly talented. I really hope he can pull through and get a championship before he retires from GP.

He's top 10 all time for GP wins with 48. He's got 4 less wins than Lorenzo. 6 less than Mick Doohan. I root for him because he's the biggest underdog of the premier GP class that I've ever seen, plus he's short like me.

MICK DOOHAN ON THE EXTRAORDINARY MARC MARQUEZ

Repsol Honda superstar Marc Marquez has left a long trail of broken records behind him since his career in premier class racing began last season. Included in that lengthy list is MotoGP legend Mick Doohan’s 1997 record of five straight wins from pole position. Marquez has since raised that record to six straight wins and will be working on number seven this coming weekend.

Like Marquez, Mick Doohan was a Honda career man and rode their machinery for his entire eleven years in Grand Prix racing. It will be a while before Marc breaks that record, but if he stays with Honda he is certainly young enough to do it. In fact, many of the young Spaniard’s records have been due to his young age.

Many of the old legends have been watching Marquez and so far they seem very impressed and very positive about the reigning world champion’s future. Doohan feels that Marquez has the whole package to become a MotoGP legend. In his opinion the road to greatness is paved with confidence and the legendary Aussie believes that Marquez has enough of it to dominate MotoGP racing for many years.

Explaining further, Doohan said that self-belief is the common strength of a great riders. From Wayne Rainey to Valentino Rossi they believed that they could take risks that others wouldn’t, and that self-confidence saw them through without crashing time and time again.

Doohan said that it’s been quite some time since MotoGP has seen someone like Marc Marquez doing the stunts he does without crashing out and he credits the young champ’s confidence for that.

Marquez chance to extend lead in front of home fans
World Championship leader Marc Marquez – who has won every race this season from pole – has enjoyed podium finishes at the Barcelona-Catalunya track for the past four years.
The Repsol Honda rider will be looking to continue his brilliant run so far this season, although he admits that his home track is not his favourite. Despite those rostrum results Marquez has not tasted victory at Montmelo since 2010 in the 125 class.

However, the Spaniard is in imperious form and sits at the top of the standings with a maximum 150 point tally from six races and a lead of 53 points in the World Championship over nearest rival Valentino Rossi. This is the largest points advantage after the first six races of the year in the MotoGP™ class since 2005, when Rossi had a 58 point lead over Marco Melandri after the opening six rounds.

By winning in Catalunya Marquez could become only the second rider to win seven successive MotoGP races since the category was introduced in 2002 as the premier-class of Grand Prix racing. The only other rider to win seven successive MotoGP races is that man Rossi in 2002.

“I really enjoyed the battle in Mugello with Jorge (Lorenzo), it was so nice,” said Marquez. “Now we head home to Montmelo which is a track that I haven’t enjoyed myself at so much in the past but the layout is good and with another year’s experience I hope the situation will be different this time. My fan club all make the journey to come and support us and this gives me extra motivation, so I hope we can put on a good show for them all.”

JL99 "hoping" for podium, wow. Going to be a tough one, someone will be left off, i'm sure it wont be him, but who knows?

Lorenzo aiming for ‘at least’ a podium result
Following his return to the podium least time out at Mugello, Jorge Lorenzo aims to be on the rostrum once more at Barcelona-Catalunya, one of his favourite venues on the MotoGP™ calendar.
Lorenzo has finished either first or second in each of the last five years at the Mediterranean track, including wins in 2010, 2012 and 2013. He missed racing in Catalunya in 2008 after crashing in the second free practice session and suffering concussion and therefore only two riders have finished in front of Lorenzo at the circuit during his years in the MotoGP class, Valentino Rossi in their famous 2009 battle and Casey Stoner in 2011.

Last year Lorenzo qualified in third place on the Catalunya grid, took the lead going into the first corner and led through to the finish. He would dearly love to repeat that performance but he knows the challenge will be tough this weekend.

“In Mugello I tried my best, I felt stronger and I think we did a really good job,” he commented. “We were really close to the victory and my physical condition improved a lot compared to the last races. The bike also worked well and I guess if we can do a step ahead either with the bike or my physical condition we will fight again for the victory.”

“Now we are heading to Montmelo, one of my favourite tracks like Mugello and I would like at least to be on the podium. Last year we could find a good pace for the race and I remember we won in front of the two main rivals, achieving a great win. Hopefully this season we can fight once again; that would be so special considering Montmelo is like my home race.”

Espargaro quickest overall, Smith fastest in afternoon
Friday afternoon’s MotoGP™ FP2 at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya ended with Bradley Smith setting the pace, as Stefan Bradl and Marc Marquez joined him in the top three. Aleix Espargaro was Friday’s fastest rider overall courtesy of an FP1 hot lap.
Monster Yamaha Tech3’s Smith set his best time of the afternoon with the track temperatures reaching over 50°C, his 1’42.123 lap well over a second quicker than he had gone in the morning.

The Briton ended the afternoon run just ahead of LCR Honda MotoGP’s Bradl and Repsol Honda Team Marquez, but it was NGM Forward Racing’s Espargaro who recorded the best time of the day (1’41.672) on a softer compound rear tyre at his home track in the morning session.

Completing the top five on the combined timesheet was the race winner for the last two years at Barcelona-Catalunya, Jorge Lorenzo (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) who was just over 0.6s down on Espargaro’s P1 time. Lorenzo’s best lap came in the afternoon heat, with the many riders using harder option front and rear tyres in the Mediterranean sunshine.

Sixth and seventh overall were Italians Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) and Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) courtesy of their best times in FP1, with Iannone escaping unhurt from a turn 10 tumble into the gravel in the morning outing.

The overall top ten was completed by Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Dani Pedrosa (Repsol Honda Team) and Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team).

Nicky Hayden (Drive M7 Aspar) rode 32 laps over the course of the day as he assessed the condition of his right wrist, on which he had surgery after missing Mugello. He ended the day 19th overall.

MM93 crashes, hope he is ok, From Twitter just now : MotoGP™ @MotoGP · 16s
It was a turn 1 crash for Marquez after another two stop Q2 effort, he lost front end and slid into gravel, then walked away. He is third.

A crash for Alvaro Bautista at turn 7, heavy highside. Rider Ok but being stretchered away. #MotoGP

It was a relatively minor lowside. It was into T1, but he was already into the corner. Nothing like last years major crash down the straight.

Pedrobot on pole, JLo and then MM.

Finally, no pole for Marquez, good thing he is alright.
Lets see what Dani and Jorge can dish out, and I hope Rossi has something special up his sleeve.

yup, he had on hell of a pole run, it's ok not to get pole everytime :)

Pedrosa secures pole start as Marquez run ends with crash
Saturday afternoon’s Q2 at the Gran Premi Monster Energy de Catalunya ended with Dani Pedrosa securing pole position, ahead of Jorge Lorenzo and Marc Marquez on row one for Sunday’s race – with Marquez suffering a late crash in the session.
At his home event Pedrosa took his first pole since the 2013 Catalan Grand Prix with a 1’40.985s lap in the Barcelona-Catalunya heat and in doing so the Repsol Honda rider ended Marquez’ successive pole run. For full Q2 results click here.

Following his fascinating battle with Marquez at Mugello Lorenzo qualified in second place and will be looking forward to fighting the Honda riders again at a track where the Mallorcan has a strong record and has won the last two MotoGP™ races.

Marquez walked away from his first crash of the year after losing the front end at turn 1 towards the end of the session. The young MotoGP™ World Champion therefore starts third on the grid, his first non-pole result since Motegi last year.

German rider Stefan Bradl (LCR Honda MotoGP), who himself suffered two big crashes at Mugello, qualified fourth after looking sharp in practice earlier in the day.

Valentino Rossi (Movistar Yamaha MotoGP) admits qualifying is not currently his strongest point but he equaled his second best Q2 result of 2014 so far in fifth, having qualified 10th last time out in Mugello.

Another home rider Aleix Espargaro (NGM Forward Racing) was delighted with his qualifying effort as he completed row two, just 0.323s behind Pedrosa.

Row three will feature Andrea Dovizioso (Ducati Team), Bradley Smith (Monster Yamaha Tech3) and Yonny Hernandez (Energy T.I. Pramac Racing), with Hernandez riding well for ninth.

The fourth row will comprise Pol Espargaro (Monster Yamaha Tech3), Andrea Iannone (Pramac Racing) and Alvaro Bautista (GO&FUN Honda Gresini). Iannone and Bautista made it through from Q1 as spots of rain threatened to disrupt Q2.

The conditions stayed dry but Bautista suffered a big Q2 highside at turn 7 and was stretchered away, though he appeared to be ok.

OMG that is even better than his signature one from last year where he was just about scraping shoulder. This time he is doing it like it's nothing! His upper arm is completely flat!!

Love his riding style, hope he improves, would be a shame to see him go.

Thrilled Pedrosa halts Marquez pole run

Repsol Honda's Dani Pedrosa halted team-mate Marc Marquez's incredible run of pole position starts by taking the top spot in qualifying for the Catalunya Moto Gp

Pedrosa capitalised when Marquez slipped off on his final qualifying run to claim his maiden pole of the season with a time of 1m 40.985s, putting him 0.115s ahead of Movistar Yamaha's Jorge Lorenzo.

Marquez's best lap of 1m 41.135s, which gave him provisional pole on his first run, was still good enough for third place on the grid.

A delighted Pedrosa, who seems to have fully recovered from surgery to correct and arm-pump problem, last qualified on pole at Catalunya last season and is now aiming for a dream result on his home patch in Sunday's 25-lap race.

“I am very happy to have taken pole position today, in front of my family and the home fans,” said Pedrosa.

“I am also delighted that, for the first time this year, I felt good on the bike in qualifying. I'll try and get a good start from pole position tomorrow; I am sure that it will be very hot and we will have to manage the tyres well during the race, but we will try to do as well as possible.”

Pedrosa's time, set on lap five of seven, was only 0.092s off his pole record from 2013 of 1m 40.893s.
