Moto3 will be reintroduced in IDM
As from 2015, Moto 3will be reintroduced by the ADAC in conjunction with SUPERBIKE IDM promoter MotorEvents and the German Motorsport Association (DMSB).
The new Moto3 is divided into Moto3 GP and Moto3 Standard. Moto3 GP is to be contested under Grand Prix regulations and is open to all Moto3 bikes, while all riders in the Moto3 standard class will run standardised Honda NSF250 machines and will compete for the German championship title, like the Moto3 GP riders.
“A Moto3 class that works is needed if we want to pave the way to the top for our young riders in road racing,” said DMSB President Hans-Joachim Stuck, referring to the new Moto3. Stuck added, stressing the importance of a junior category, run under Grand Prix regulations: “Starting with the 2015 season, Moto3 is a key step towards the integration of a national grass-roots and motorcycle world championship.”
ADAC Sports President Hermann Tomczyk elucidated further: “Moto3 is an entry-level class for follow-on series and at the same time constitutes a key element in the German motorcycle racing system and a means of moving up the ladder for ADAC Junior Cup riders. Talented riders need an appropriate category in which they can continue to develop their riding ability, knowledge and skill in order to reach the goal that every racing motorbike rider seeks to attain – the world championship title. For this reason, Moto3 is indispensable for German motorcycle sport. We will do everything we can to ensure that this concept is successfully implemented.”
The excellent relations that exist between ADAC and Dorna Sports S.L. have ensured that the new Moto3 standard and Moto3 GP classes enjoy the keen support not only of Honda Racing Corporation (HRC), DMSB, MotorEvents and the ADAC itself, but also in particular that of Dorna Sports SL, the commercial rights holder of the Moto GP and Eni World Superbike world championships. Dorna Sports S.L. will be incorporating the new class under its endorsed programmes. The common goal is to strengthen the central and northern European market and offer riders a sporting framework based on Spain’s FIM Repsol CEV Moto3 championship.
Carmelo Ezpeleta, CEO of Dorna Sports S.L. told us: “We at Dorna intend to support this project. Along with HRC, we are considering to create a scholarship programme for three or four riders from this Moto3 series.” ADAC Sports President Tomczyk welcomed the support of the world championship commercial rights holder, adding: “We are delighted to have Dorna’s support and are certain that our project will bear fruit, thanks to their strong backing.”
