Rain in Qatar has brought a premature end to 2015 MotoGP pre-season testing.
The rain began falling several hours before the 4pm start time for what should have been the third and final night of testing at the Losail circuit. With no track action possible in the wet due to safety concerns over the reflection of the floodlighting, riders were left to sit and wait.
But with no sign of an improvement by 7:30pm the likes of world champion Marc Marquez had decided to call it quits, with others soon reaching the same conclusion. Although the test doesn't technically finish until 11pm, and could have been extended to make up for lost time, the onset of darkness means the track is even less likely to dry even if the rain stops.
A day of Michelin tyre development is set for Tuesday, however this is only for the factory test riders. The next time the MotoGP race rider will be on track is back at the Losail circuit on March 26, during opening practice for the Qatar Grand Prix.
The loss of Monday's testing means riders were unable to complete their crucial race simulations, creating a further unknown heading into the new season.
Andrea Iannone and then Ducati team-mate Andrea Dovizioso caused a stir by being fastest on the new GP15 during the Saturday and Sunday running - despite using the harder rear tyre.
Prior to Losail, Repsol Honda's Marquez - gunning for a perfect third MotoGP crown this season - was quickest at the two Sepang outings.
The 2009 Qatar race was postponed until the Monday due to rain and MotoGP will be keeping its fingers crossed for better weather in less than two weeks' time.
