An amazing 350 for Vale!

350 GPs: Rossi hits a milestone in Argentina
Nine-time World Champion still setting records as the first to hit 350
Tags MotoGP, 2017, GRAN PREMIO MOTUL DE LA REPÚBLICA ARGENTINA, Valentino Rossi, Movistar Yamaha MotoGP
From the 125 to 250 to 500 to MotoGP™ World Championship, Valentino Rossi has now started 349 Grands Prix – and is set to hit the big 350 in the Gran Premio Motul de la Republica Argentina, becoming the first rider to do so. The venue could be a good one for the veteran, as Rossi is one of only two winners at the track – the other being arch nemesis Marc Marquez (Repsol Honda Team).
Rewinding to before Qatar, it was a difficult preseason for the Italian legend, but the Movistar Yamaha rider showed some Sunday magic once again to get onto the podium. That made 2017 a record 22nd consecutive season in which the ‘Doctor’ has had a podium finish – another record – and it is also his eighteenth consecutive premier class season taking at least one podium – you guessed it, another record.

As he lines up for his 350th race, Rossi is also lining up in the 888th GP event counting towards the world championship classification – meaning the number 46 has taken part in almost 40% of all Grand Prix events since the Championship began in 1949. And despite a tough start, it’s looking up after the result in Qatar as 2017 sets sails for round two.

Valentino Rossi: “It wasn't an easy start to the championship. We have worked so hard during the test, but during the weekend of the first race we have fixed a few things, especially in the front. The race went very well and I was very happy to be able to get on the podium. Now we go to Argentina. This is a track that I like very much and I'm happy to go there. I hope that there are good asphalt conditions because last year it was difficult for us. We will try to work better and try to go once again on the podium!”

Its amazing how they are riding at such a high level, that the smallest adjustments here and there can make the difference between podium and a dismal finish. Like him or not, Vale's history in MotoGP is legendary and his journey is fascinating to watch, especially in these later years IMO, such an inspiration. I gotta go with Rossi for this round!

interesting FP2 session, will it rain tomorrow??? will Vale, Jorge and Dovi miss Q2?
Vinales went on to set his best laps with the medium rear while his closest rivals fitted a soft to push for a time attack in case of afternoon rain.

Following last year's tyre issues, all MotoGP riders must complete 5 timed laps on the hard rear in FP1-2. If not they'll receive 6 place grid penalty.

FP2
Maverick Vinales topped FP2 at the Argentina MotoGP, as riders ran soft rear tyres for a time attack in the closing minutes.

World champion Marc Marquez slotted into second but there are surprises behind, with Dani Pedrosa 13th, Andrea Dovizioso 14th, Valentino Rossi 16th and Jorge Lorenzo 18th.

The quartet must now hope there is no rain on Saturday morning, when they will try and gain direct access to Qualifying 2.

All riders lapped quicker in FP2 than in FP1.

Cal Crutchlow leads FP3, Maverick Vinales stays top overall while the likes of Dani Pedrosa, Andrea Dovizioso, Valentino Rossi and Jorge Lorenzo fail to break the top ten and will be sent to Qualifying 1.

The session began dry, with most riders completing their first laps on medium tyres, which Crutchlow used to improve to second place overall.

But the big names outside of the top ten were then caught out by rain in the final 15-minutes - none of them having fitted the soft rear tyre and pushed for a fast lap, despite the dark clouds overhead...

wow, just gutted for Marc, he was pushing like mad from the start getting holeshot and almost getting a 2sec lead on Cal MV and VR. Really too bad for Dani as well. Jorge clipping Iannone back tire and his race was done first corner :( Congrats to MV for 2 in a row! first yamaha rider since Wayne to to that!! We are off to COTA where Marc has not lost, he will need a win there to try and get out of an early season hole... and so sad for Dovi, dude just has ZERO luck :(

Maverick Vinales makes it two wins out of two as a Yamaha MotoGP rider, after Marc Marquez falls from the early lead in Argentina.
Valentino Rossi passed Cal Crutchlow to celebrate his 350th Grand Prix with second place, while Crutchlow handed Honda its first rostrum of the year.
Dani Pedrosa would fall at the same Turn 2 as Marquez, Andrea Dovizioso was taken out for the second year in a row - this time by Aleix Espargaro - while Ducati team-mate Jorge Lorenzo didn't make the opening lap...

Ugh... Bad day for Honda & Ducati O.o

Especially gutted for MM and DP.
MM was pushing so hard, and getting a gap real quick when he crashed.

And I felt like DP could get a podium today after that. Too bad.

MV has a 37points lead on MM now. Can't wait for COTA!
