AMA changes 06 rules for new R1:Discuss

Basically here's whats up, 2006 AMA SBK rules clearly...

Now... we all know whats up with the new R1, so SOUP publiched the article..the AMA's Crowther did phone back after this story was posted to say that a change to the Superbike rules regarding variable intake systems has been approved but not yet communicated. In layman's terms the new rule states that if the variable intake equipment does come on the streetbike, it is legal for the class. Good news as our resident gear-head looked over the loose specs for the '07 R1 and said it will probably roll to the grid with the flatest torque-curve in the Superbike class to date, which should help make it a contender out of the box.

Discuss... fair no fair? They didnt change it for Ducati, they were competitive, yet they changed it for the Piano boys, theyre not struggling to compete either, both brands won races.

No more mod listing, shits is STILL too long

I personally think the rules "bending" is a joke in the AMA series. It's convieneint (sp?) for the rules to change mid season to allow a TC device in the suberbike class. I've asked myself why this would take place mid season. Maybe to protect the golden children of the AMA (speis, mladin)? It's allready brutal enough for a privateer to try and fight in the ranks of AMA. Why put them at more of a disadvantage?

I agree with the "If it comes stock allow it" mentality. No one benefits more from this than the average Joe. By limiting what can be changed/modified on a bike it forces the manufacturers to up the ante more with what is standard on a production street bike. How many WERA or CCS racers are put off by every other bike having a slipper and being able to use it in a SS class? This is no different.

The AMA needs to restructer thier classes. Allow the factories to beat the hell out of each other and allow the privateers a chance to earn a name for themselves, in seperate classes. If the AMA wants to bend rules make it benifit the riders who cannot afford a $100,000 superbike. Change the rules to level the playing feild or seperate the factories from the rest.

Make racing fun to watch. Watching the rider in 11th place get lapped by the leader is not my definition of fun.

The AMA sucks,always has,always will........they are driven by factory money.

Why do the vendors want us to buy there stuff when they never have it in stock?

They made changes for buell and there 56 bikes but they won't do anything for the Ducks......why.......because the ducks would kick a$$ and take names later if they did and the sucksuki show would be no more.

AMA is being run by politicians that's why rules change at every whim, the bureaucracy needs an overhaul.

So why didnt they hook Duc up if theyre so easy to bend.. they were prety firm with Ducati, and not even a week after the Piano Boys announce the specs of the mofo theyre already "adjusting' the rules...

Also with the new power adjustin gthing thin on the gixer 1k, is that against the rules? i dunno, did Suzuki tell em it was coming and then mid season they changed it to allow TC.

No more mod listing, shits is STILL too long

If they gave the Ducks any leeway like they did the "allmighty HD",they would be winning and we can't have the sucksukie show put to shame.


Sucksukie was already running the traction control and it would be my guess that the others said somrthing about it.Rather than tell the Rossie wannabe that can't do it or fine them (take away all the wins this year) for doing it,they had to let everyone use it.

The FX catastrophe with the Buell was a joke. There is no way that bike was legal. But the AMA approved it. I'm personally glad it got slaughtered.

IMHO, the AMA bends the rules for Yamaha and Buell because they NEED the Big Four and an American company. FIM does the same thing for Ducati in WSBK, esp back in the days when it was the Ducati Cup. The reasons why FIM would want Ducati on top is obvious. They were also competetive in British and Canadian superbike; everywhere except here. Does the MSMA have jurisdiction here? I think an association like that would do the AMA some good, if one's not already in existance.

I do agree with "If it comes stock, its legal" mantra. I don't agree with traction control in SBK, but thats another topic.

But guys, even tho the bike came with it, the rules also clearly stated, than any form of variable V stacks, are ILLEGAL!! Then they twisted the if it cam ewith it park a littl ebit and made the R1 legal. WTF
