I've resisted getting one of these because they take up a lot of space and how often are you really going to need it?

But after getting my fourth flat tire this year and paying $44 to the local shop to derim and mount a new tire for me the first three times (wheel off the bike), I've decided I need to do this myself. Also, two of the tires were basically new and the shop won't do any patching.

It looks to be the same one sold at Harbor Freight for around $85. I got it on eBay for $46 delivered. I bought these tire patches and they work great:

It's a fairly crude made in China tool with assembly required (about 15 minutes) but it made short work of unbeading the tire.

Just rode an hour on street and trail with my patched tire and all is well. And the thing just paid for itself. But now where to put it?

Rope patches or mushrooms aren't a permanent fix. On my fourth flat last Sunday I had a patch kit along and a hand pump.

But I couldn't find the puncture. Ended up having to fetch the bike with my trailer. Once at home using a compressor I could feel it but still not see it. It was diagonally along the side of a knobby (this was on an Adv. bike).

I have one for a car that my grandfather gave me back in 1988. I've been using that but I like the attachment on that one to hold the wheel up and I might fabricate something for mine just like that.
