I’m tearing apart my 09 600rr because the timing chain ate all the guides and I have bearing material in the oil after it soft-locked while riding. Is this scoring too bad to put back together like this or should I get it machined? I don’t know the extent of other damage yet but I know I’ll have to completely tear down the motor.

can you feel the scoring with your finger nail? plated cylinders have to get recoated. they aren’t just bored out to the next size like is done with a cast iron cylinder. you can try to deglaze it and check if the coating is intact. if you locked up the engine however, the coating might be damage and the cylinder should be replated or replaced.
Some mechanics say you should never hone Niaskil cylinders. “Never”, however, is incorrect. For non-ported Nikasil cylinders, use 240-grit AO Flex-Hone tools.
