I recently took my bike in for a safety inspection here in Hawaii and failed due to my front forks leaking oil. The shop quoted me about $460 to fix the bike, I don't have that kind of extra cash at the moment so I am going to replace them myself. I am new to motorcycle maintenance, I do have expeience with cars and I work on planes for a living. I youtubed videos and the process of changing the fork seals seems pretty straight foward, I just have a couple of questions. First, for oil is it SS-47 or SS-8 I have seen both mentioned on here, and the service manual I got off of the forum (I believe it is the correct one) says SS-47. Does it matter which fork oil I use? Both are 10W. Second, is it necessary to remove the fork completley from the bike? I don't mind if I have to just wondering if it will save time or if its possible. Third, any videos I should watch after I am done to return the suspension back factory or how to adjust the suspension to my height/weight. Thank you for the help.
