Although cool it's probably running a bit rich now you've fitted those parts, might do you a favour to get a PC and get it on the dyno for some setup!

As TOMT suggested, chances are you are not running at your optimal AFR, so your performance will suffer without a fuel controller and tune/autotune. Depends on your priorities of course.

 

What afr would be the point where it does backfire?

 

it is not a backfire, nor running rich.

that is a lean pop. the mixture is too lean to ignite in the cylinder, so unburnt fuel gets thrown down the exhaust and flashes off on the hot pipe.

backfire would be exactly that - back through the airbox.

 

So running lean about 16-17 will do that afterfire

Youngy is absolutely correct, slip of the keyboard. It's now running too lean as the gasses are able to escape quicker (and therefore pull more air in) than the standard fuel ratio can cope with. There is a small amount of adjustment the ECU can make but not enough, hence why a tune on the dyno with a power commander or such is required.

 

Ahh so what happens if I don't get a power commander and tune it? Because that's another 400 dollars I gotta pay

Yeah you wanna get it checked out really - running lean for too long can lead to bigger problems like valves burning out and the engine running quite hot. Best practise is if anything you want it running a little rich to be on the safe side. But not too rich as this can wash the cylinder walls and cause premature wear.

Trip to the dyno for you!

I'd say you don't "need" to, the map from dynojet should get you close

 

Obviously getting a PCV and a custom dyno tune is the best option. But if you are strapped for cash a Dynojet map will be good enough.

 

Prolly should have done some more research before buying the headers, I'd say as a PC is really mandatory after replacing the headers and well documented.

You should be fine with the standard DJ map, but at some point in the near future get it tuned by a reputable shop, not based solely on price or you'll hurt more than you help.

I was looking at the maps for the dynojet the closest they have to my set up is arrow full exhaust.. Like headers and arrow tip.. Because I have arrow headers and different slip on u guys think that map will be fine?
