i live in west tx and i changed the oil for the 1st time and i used honda 10w40 did not read the bottleand the book said 10w30 should i change it or am i ok

Its a less vicocity oil if the manual says one thing i would do it. Since its a new bike i wouldnt stray from the prescribed maintaince.
your bike is perfectly fine running 10w40. everyones favorite, rotella T6, is 5w40. just dont use 20w50 or something like that and youll be fine.
never use car oil ever, youve been warned. use oil that is suitable for use with wet clutch applications.. rotella t6 is a fit for this but most car oils, valvoline and all that normal stuff, is not.

i only run 10W40 in my 600RR except when i broke it in when i rebuilt the engine, used 10W30 which was ok, i'll be trying the Maxima 530RR race oil which has 5W30 viscosity, thinner oil frees up a hp or 2 plus it cools better.
Hello all. I too have a 2012 600rr. I need to do my first oil change but I am finding out that 10w30 is uncommon. Even my dealer service department suggested 10w-40 initially and was unaware that the owner manual said to use 10w30. I live in Maryland. It has been pretty hot and humid this summer (a lot of mid high 90's). I read through and saw about Rotella 5w-40 but I was not sure if it would be wise to stray from the owner manual. I am getting ready to give in and order Honda's HP4S Synthetic Oil 10w30 (part number 08c35-syn-1030m). Can anyone offer any additional advice? I will continue to research but I would like to change the oil asap as I just bought my bike and have just hit 1k. Any advice would be much appreciated!
It is not all that uncommon but now the choice is yours.. Auto oil or Motorcycle oil.
I always recommend a Motorcycle Specific oil. Honda has it, AMSOIL has it with a JASO MA2 Rating. The highest clutch performance rating available.
If you want to cheap out and use an auto oil, you will need to run one of the "High Mileage" oils.
Many use 10W-40 Motorcycle oil.
I would also recommend for you to bleed the brakes... New Bike or not.

Just wondering the same myself - everything on here says 10/40 but the manual for RR9 says 10/30 and on top of that I am in the UK -far from hot!!
