Best Backpack for Riding?

What does everyone recommend for backpacks while riding?

I've been using my laptop backpack and after losing valuables due to the pockets opening up (at possibly higher speeds), I've decided to invest in a better backpack geared towards riding.

Anyone have any luck with stronger pocket backpacks ?

I've lost glasses 2-3x and hearing aids 2x now. I can't keep afford these losses anymore lol :nerd:

anyone else have similar bad experiences ? or am I the only one? :retard:

I used my backpack to ride to school and work. Sometimes even soccer, and fit my soccerball in there. So I'm definitely looking at the bigger backpacks.

Here are some options I've seen on BikeBandit

I just use a regular northface recon. It's usually filled with my laptop, couple books, and an extra sweatshirt. Never once had it open up on my or anything like that, and it also has a waist and chest strap.

I used this, little pricey but I'd give it 4 stars. It is expandable, chest and waist straps, weatherproof, has rain cover built in, helmet holder, soft pocket, organization inside and pockets on the waist straps. Has a map holder for the chest that I used to put my phone in and could flip down and look at and interact through the casing. Only reason I knock off a star is because what makes it weatherproof is this type of plastic guarding the zippers to stop rain from getting in, that stuff hardened and cracked off in pieces - could have been better quality.
You could probably use the helmet holder to hold your soccer ball too, may look a little goofy but gets the job done.

All these posts and no one has recommended the Ogio No-Drag?

I have an older model of this one... Ogio Mach One

It has a helmet "bag" that goes around the outside which you can use for a soccer ball or two and w/o soccer balls it's a great aerodynamic design.

I just picked up an ogio laptop bag for the sternum strap. I have a lot of other ogio bags and they are def quality

Been using a Kriega R25 for the last few years and never had any issues. Actually got it through Disco here. The Kriega comes with a ten year warranty, and the harness system is awesome!

I almost feel weird riding without a backpack. That being said if I ride for too long with a back pack on my neck starts to hurt. I usually used my HMK Snowmobile backpack until I went sliding down the highway with it on..

I use North Face Jester works well. I have the grey version on the right, the extra bottom strap helps keepthe backpack in one place. Plus you can also strap the chest together. I forgot to mention it has a laptop enclosure in the big pocket.

In response to my previous post, as much as I love the Ogio, I probably need something with a built-in "fanny pack" b/c yesterday's long ride in my one piece Dainese Laguna Seca suit kinda sucked b/c I didn't have a pocket to put my wallet(and having to gas up 3x was a pain), the advantage though was the ability to put a Camelbak in the backpack(which was a lifesaver in 110+ degree AZ heat) and the aerodynamic design.

Also, even when I wear my Dainese leather and mesh jacket or RS Taichi leather jacket I HATE having stuff in my pockets so a backpack with pockets around the waist would work better, however, I don't want to sacrifice aerodynamics or hydration.

Been using a 5.11 72 hour pack, can carry heaps of stuff and it's not very big. Has those MOLLE straps or whatever so you can attach whatever you want. I attach spare tyres to the bag when I go to get it changed.

I use a Kriega R25 when carrying a lot and a R15 when the luggage is less. they're not the cheapest bags but they haven't faulted me thus far. I really like them. If adjusted properly, you barely notice the weight on your back.

I prefer fixing a bag on the tail and be able to freely move on the bike without moving extra weight...

If I had to look for a back pack I would def be checking out the zippers and be sure they don't open "randomly"

Excellent point... I hate carrying stuff in my pockets, let alone a big backpack(unless I have the need for a Camelback which I why I like my old Ogio).

Does anyone have any experience with this "convertible" tail-pack?

I have the Icon Squad 3 backpack. It cost me around $100 and IMO worth it. It's a medium sized backpack so you'll be able to fit maybe a few clothes or a couple of books. I use it all the time when I go riding. It's like part of my riding gear. There are 2 adjustable straps in both sleeves that connect so the backpack will never feel loose. I think this backpack fits best when you wear a motorcycle jacket because it will feel way loose without one even if you tighten the straps. There are also reflectors in both the front and the back for when you want to ride at night. IMO it's a pretty solid everyday commuting type of backpack. You should definitely go check it out.

I got some Givis for my CBR...

A little of a pain to install saddle bags on our bikes, specially with the undertail exaust...

Still, it can be done and it works..

Be sure to pick waterproof saddlebags or at least a set that comes with a rain cover for them...

You'll have to use your imagination to install them, since there no fixing kits for our bikes (at least not that I know about)
