lap time differences between a 600cc bike and 1000cc?

This question is for you racers out there. What is the typical lap time difference between a 600cc bike vs the liter bikes? I know it depends on the track and the rider but given the same rider on a relatively high speed track like Willow Springs how much quicker is the liter bike?

all depends on the track and rider. My friend runs a heavily modified R1 at Loudon and I run a stock '05 600RR. I still post faster times than him though I he is getting quicker..but so am I.

The resident pro and FUSA points leader rides his 600 fsater aruond the track than his 1000.

At track days the only spot where the 1000's gain on me is on the straights. I really like my 600 better though. More fun and much easier to ride.

In the novice ranks it doesn't matter as the riding level is not so high. In May when I put my F4i on the podium on a 50+ rider grid I was the 3rd fastest rider in all of novice, regardless of class... and my bike puts out only 90hp and is mostly stock except for the revalved/resprung forks, rearsets and a slipon...not to mention I have 36k miles on the clock.

Check out my site for more info including a link to the mylaps site ;-) My best time so far is a 1:30.28 on the F4i and even the fastest liter bikes in Novice are doing 1:29.5 or so. With some rear suspension work and tuning I feel I could get into the 29s.

In the expert ranks, Jason Perez has done 1:23.2 in June on a Graves Superstock R6 (120hp) with DOT tires. His best time on the Graves Superstock R1 was 1:23.0 on DOT and 1:21.5 or so on Slicks.

So, to answer your question... at the top level the difference is about 2 secs.

holy cow, Perez doing 1:23s?!!! You're way fast if you're pulling 1:30s. I can't wait to get sub 1:30s.

javawhz,
are you still racing or is your season done? Would love it if you can show me some pointers around the Big Track.

My season is done although I am still doing track days. My F4i is not really competitive at the level I'm riding and what I want to achieve since I am already at the limits of the bike. I don't want to dump money on this bike, I would rather just get something newer.

No problem about the pointers, I will be at ButtonWillow on Aug. 28 and Willow Springs on Sep 5, if you're there look me up ;-)

Awesome, good luck on the next purchase.

I'll be at Willow Springs on the 5th for sure. I'm going to check out ButtonWillow for the 28th too. I appreciate the help javawhz, see you out there.
