Night vision helmets?

So it popped into my head today how cool it would be to have a motorcycle helmet with night vision. I ride a lot in the dark and I'm very scared of hitting deer! Anyways I was just wondering if anyone knows if they are in the process of making one or if there is one? Then again I don't know if oncoming cars would blind you because of that. Anyways just wanted to hear peoples thoughts....I searched and didn't see a post on it maybe I missed it.:drunk:

Higher end night vision can reflect the light. They have come a long way since the movies..
Hi end cars have this as an option.. Works great.. Only a matter of time

I'll admit that I don't know very much about night vision so bare with me..isn't there a slight lag in real time with them? Also, instead of rigging up all that to the helmet and visor like T said, I would think its easier to just pick up the dome type helmet and just buy some NVG's...that way you could just flip them up for an oncoming car, city lights, etc

The internal visor "HUD" can be retracted this would be a must. The cost would be very, very high to make something like this..

A night vision helmet would be great, if I had a 20mm machine guns mounted on each side.:drunk:

NVD's are cool but wouldn't adapt so well to riding. You lose a lot of depth perception and going from aided vision to unaided messes you up even more. And the other guys are right other vehicle lights would mess you up. A highspeed in helmet HUD would be awesome though...like the Iron man helmet.

I actually posted a thread a while back about a company doing just that...
they've just developed a system for skying and very soon they will have them for motorsports.
edit: i FOUND THE LINK

Every couple months I check their site to see where they are in development.
I cant wait until they release the motorcycle version of this:

I really can't wait to see what they come up with.
After seeing one of the SportVue HUDs in person, I have very high expectations for a system that is completely incorporated into a helmet rather than having a huge attachment like the SportVue HUD.

Yeah, I was under the impression that (typically) people used a good set of headlights to illuminate the road ahead of them.

yes, any typically people use 4 wheels to get from point A to B. clearly we are not members here because we HAVE to rock 2 wheels. we indulge because we love it.

NVGs will wash out in headlights. Over time it will ruin them. A small HUD with a thermal sight would be the best way to go. It will see far past your headlights so you can spot that sneaky animal waiting to jump out in front of you. A set up for your car will run you $4000...lol

Right on. Thermal imagery would serve a much better purpose than an integrated NV system. I mean, you can use an NV system in an urban environment, but like the above poster stated, lens flare sucks ass.

Also, typical NV units rely on a monocular setup, so if that is the route you have to take, say goodbye to depth perception and peripheral vision.

NV = BAD

Thermal Imagery = GOOD

it sounds like a neat idea for the back roads, but with every car having head light it would go it a its safe mode so you really dont have to worry about it blinding you. But the one I have will go black looking thur the eye peice when there is too much light detected. So it may end up being worse than just using your eyes.

If you used any kind of NVG's while riding you would probably crash on the first turn you took, the depth perception on them is terrible. I would never use them, it's a good idea on paper but just get some better headlights. However if you are dead set on night vision just mount a small display in between the handlebars a camera in the front of the bike somewhere

did you hear about the helmet with a rear view camera in it that projects an image on your visor?

#35 ·
yea except i do know if i would want to spend alot of money on a helmet like that and something happen to it

o thats not too bad...i figured it would be more expensive.
