what are some pros and cons between a 520 and 525 chain?

520 get steel/titanium sprockets or you are going to eat the sprocket teeth off eventually. May be from aggressive throttle but I will never use aluminum sprockets again.

520 is lighter than 525 in weight

520 is lighter and less mass than 525. the pro of the 520 is less rotating mass. downside of 520 is that it has less life compared to 525.

For street use just stick to 525 as you will not see any noticable difference between the 2. If you are doing track or want to do performance mods to your bike (and don't mind replacing them more often) then go 520conversion with steel sprockets. Stay away from aluminum.

^^^ Love this ^^^

If you get a 520 set up you save weight on the chain but need a steel rear sprocket to take the beating.

Keep your 525 set up and you can run an aluminum rear sprocket which is lighter then the factory steel sprocket.

Run a 520 set up with titanium sprockets and you'll get the best of both worlds but your wallet will hurt alil.

For a street rider and even a NON-expert track rider the benefits are slim and should be spent elsewhere at first. Tires, damper, exhaust, Power commander, etc. I powder coated everything texture low gloss black to match the frame, so I picked up a +2 525 black vortex aluminum rear sprocket and a 525 gold on gold EK chain to match the factory gold calipers and scotts damper. 10,000 miles later and all is still well. Good luck.
