weight comparison

so i was reading through some of these threads about weight of the 07 and thought i would throw mine out there

granted this was a total ghetto system using a bathroom scale under each tire but with the only mods of rear pegs gone, fender cut off, and right side heat shield gone it totaled 410lbs with the tank completely full

for comparison my buddies 06 with a yosh carbon slip on and only half a tank of gas weighed 408

so i need to lose the rest of the heat shielding and switch out the oem exhaust for something lighter. i know that you can lighten the rear rotor up pretty good. the one i got for my 1000 off of ebay combined with titanium bolts took 2 lbs off the rear wheel

my goal under 390.

that is highly inaccurate baxsom, every single magazine, has found it several pounds lighter than the previous models, so why are you worried about it.

There is no way to use 2 scales to get the weight and have it be right. Some weight on one will still register on an other and so on and so forth. Its damn light compaired to the revious years and light compaired to all the 600s this year. Be happy!

What did you get for rear rotor? Anyways, wheels will take a load off.. maybe CF fairing stays, CF subframes, etc.. all CF bike.. hehehe..

try kitchen scales, they are more accurate then the ghetto style bathroom scales!

Im pretty sure thats what honda used and maybe thats why ur getting such a large difference.......

If i was you i would write into Honda and call them bluff! Lying bastards!

first of all i realize how inaccurate two scales would be.
which is why this was just a comparison, it wouldnt matter how inaccurate the scales actually read because it would read the same inaccuracies for both bikes.

i was just saying that my completely stock 07 completely full of gas weighs as much as the 06 that has switched out the heavy ass stock exhaust and almost empty on gas.

oh and i guess you guys have never worked at a truck stop weigh station have you.
each axle is weighed and the total added up for total truck wieght

True but those scales are designed for those trunks. Bathroom scales aren't designed for the bike and don't take into the effect the length of the bike, the distance between each scale etc etc.. Truck scales are computer run and take into account alot of those differences. Bathroom scales only weigh in its center...try this. Weigh yourself on one scale, then weigh yourself on both...you'll see they don't just add up. If my girl only knew she just needed two scales to make her 20lbs lighter..haha

actually

the only inaccuracy would be from the person holding the bike ... I work for a performance shop that corner balances cars and we use 4 scales to acheave this and the total weight on all the scales equals the total weight of the car ( such as the scales will say 550 front right 550 front left 450 rear right 450 rear left total weight is 550 + 550 + 450 + 450 equals 2000 lbs ) so the only inacuracy i could see besides ( getto bathroom scales themselves being off) is the person balancing the bike..

I have done this with several bikes and believe it to be reasonably accurate. I have a shipping scale and a long board that is the same height as the scale. I roll one end onto the scale, centering the contact patch of the tire on the center of the scale. Then move the scale to the other end and do the same. If your carfull you can balance it without putting any pressure on the bike. This method also shows you how much weight is on each end. The 1000 is a lot heavier in the front than the 600.

sounds right .. when we corner balance cars u raise and lower the coil overs to shift the weight and if u looose 10 pounds in one place u find it somwhere else

As some others have said, it's not really ghetto at all - it will be as accurate as your scales are, so long as you are not applying any pressure on the bike holding it, and so long as both scales are the same height.

"any weight on one scale will be partially read on the other" is false.

What do you think they do to weigh cars and get corner weights?

That's right, a sensor under each wheel.

Sure, they don't use bathroom scales, but the bathroom scales won't be *that* inaccurate. In the 21st century, we can actually build a semi accurate weighing device for cheap :D

A *fair* comparison would be to weigh both bikes with an equal amount of fuel.

Also, keep in mind that your weights will be "wet" and not factory weights, so you need to take into account that you're weighing oil, coolant, battery, etc.

If you're surprised at how much the honda weighs compared to the R6, i'd be checking things on the spec sheet like oil capacity, etc. I know the honda has a fairly large oil capacity on it (almost the same as my car) which may account for some of the "unexpected" weight...

So the specs on Honda's site are wrong? Dry Weight 345 pounds
Fuel Capacity 4.8 gallons, including 0.9-gallon reserve....or does the 4.8 gallons really add 60 pounds?

Dry weight EXCLUDES: Engine oil, coolant, fuel and brake fluid. I might be missing something else.

Yeah I know, just hard to believe that it adds up to 60 pounds...
