My RR that I just purchased, I can twist the black part that sticks out back and forth, is that normal? My 250r doesn't do that. They are rock solid.

Yes, you can "spin" the bar ends. Actually, you are spinning the weight inside the bar as well. As long as the screw spins as well, you are fine because the entire thing is spinning as a whole. I wouldn't do it too much though because the clip (Part #11) might cut into the rubber bushing (Part #10). Most likely not but you never know.

I like how you took a picture of every detail. Well done. I guess you just got a new camera.
Thanks. This lens isn't that great for close ups...with 1 hand.... lol. We've had it for about a year. One of my summer classes this year is a camera class so hopefully I can learn a few more things other than what I've self-taught myself.

I just wanted to update that these are still going strong. I really like these over the cheesy aftermarket ones. Less vibration and the bar end is solid. I can still spin the bar end, but it never comes off.

I've seen a few posts popping up lately with questions on the bar weights inside our bar ends. Hope this helps a few of these people.

That is a separate piece!?!?!?!?!?!?! OMG!! you have no idea how much you just made my day!! I had to drop my bike in gravel to avoid a collision from someone pulling out of a parking lot without looking and broke my bar end off with half the weight still screwed on and I thought I would have to buy a whole new clipon or use the rubber method like you did... I am so happy right now :D

Great write up. Yeah, those universal bar ends range from 'pretty okay' to 'these will pop out in three weeks'.

I was surprised to learn how much stuff is inside the oem bar; sort of seems overly intricate. Buying a used whole clipon can sometimes be time/cost effective over bothering with the internals, but of course that's your judgement call.

Glad to help. Did you end up pulling it out?

Thanks. I used to hate looking down all the time to see if the bar ends were still there. Haven't thought about it once since I installed the OEM bar weights. They are the perfect anchor for bar ends.

This was a huge help! I just low sided turning right from a stop and my bar end snapped in half inside the handle bar. I removed it and bought those bar ends with the half core thing and the vibration is ridiculous. Just doesn't feel solid at all. I too have that fear of losing the bar end. I just bought all the parts you described and will be installing shortly. For the price of the parts and the price i paid for the D-Axis Bar Ends, should have just bought the parts. Thanks again for this post!!

Thanks! The internal bar weights really adds some rigidness to the bar ends. They don't bend at all, just spin.

I just put mine in and i still get a slight vibration on my throttle side. It may be because of the grips. I have Driven D3 grips. I might have to change them. The joint of my thumb to my hand sits half on the aluminum and half on the grip. What grips to do you have?

This is a real PITA!... Went thru the same on my 03, one side was completely missing and the other side was screwed...

I was pretty amazed of the internals on the clipons, very neat idea to reduce vibrations on the hands... You will not find this in other bikes...

My grips? They are just plain Driven Gel Grips (love em btw).

Hey so i bought my bike earlier this year and tried to put on the same bar ends (they were the heaviest i could find) although it looks like my internal weight is bent or there is none at all. Do you think i should order the same parts and replace the entirety? My left side fit perfectly, the right side just keeps twisting around unevenly. Thanks!

That looks like something is bent. I would pull out the whole throttle side assembly and asses.
