Dam man that sucks i am kind of worried now about the oil snout now you do not want to get that stripped because then u will be really in deep trouble

You can not get the filter to spin at all i have not ever used a
K&N filter so i am not really sure how tight it gets to be after
it has been on a bike for a while i hand tight evrey oil filter i touch
so i never had any oil filter tightness issues

 

Did you push the screwdriver through both sides of the filter?

 

Bugger dude, I feel bad for you. I've had the same problem for the past few days, but went and got the proper "Honda tool" and managed to remove my (OEM) filter. Sorry I don't have any real advice - I'd have tried the screwdriver as a last resort... If you're hopelessly stuck I suppose you can put the bike on stands, and remove the headers so there's extra space for leverage. But for what, who knows... :headscrat Lots of luck!

 

You gotta find a way to get some leverage. So put the screwdriver through there and a pipe on the end of the screwdriver so you can get some torque and it should come loose easy that way.

Doesn't sound like it's stripped because it would just spin freely. It wouldn't stay on tight like that. But you must have cranked that baby on there. Dam lol.

however in the mean time i am going to see if i can find a oil filter cap or something else.

go to your local tool store they have rubber filter wrenches they are the best they will not slip and the rubber band can be fed around the filter if you cannot slide it over they are like 8 dollars.

are you sure you're spinning it the right way. I'm sure you know, but just checking... no clues otherwise. It may be wise to take your header off and get more leverage as everyone else above has stated. You gotta do something in order to get this thing off.... and that may require alot of work.

I have that same wrench and I hate it lol. You can't get good contact on the filter with the headers on there. I mean it works and I get the filters on and off but it's just a pain.

 

True. It was tricky with the headers on the RR. I have all the room in the world on the RC. I just could never find a filter cap like this that was small enough.

 

I have one of these for the Honda. Got it last week @ Pepboys. Worked great.. $4.99.... Oh buy a metal one, NOT CRAP...

Yea I hear ya. That wrench kind of dents my filter too. Gotta start ordering K&N's and make it easy on myself.

 

filter caps are crap, this work for me as well, buy it!

 

It may seem like overkill, but when I've exhausted the usual options I pull out your average pipe wrench. They are very heavy and break the filter free easily.

I had to use a screwdriver on mine recently after the filter socket I got was too loose a fit. You need to tap it in at say 7 o'clock angle looking at the filter, and be very careful to get the screwdriver right through it BUT not to puncture the heat exchanger next to it. Then lean on the screwdriver to loosen off the filter. Using a pipe over the screwdriver handle would give you more leverage to loosen it.

Probably does help to get the headers off - I have to take the right hand pair off my Akrapovic or the filter won't screw all the way off.

 

Try the Craftsman rubber belt wrench.

Remove the coolant reservoir first, I think it has two 10mm bolts. Then you can easily use the belt wrench.

 

attach a hose clamp around the filter then use a reqular head screw driver (against the hose clamp screw) and hammer it around.

 

Damn i finally got that freaking thing off.... I went to the store and picked up both the pliers and the oil filter cap... the K and N filter has a nut at the end so the oil filter cap does not fit... then i finally took of the reserve coolant tank and used the pliers to take the oil filter off...

Dear god man, you have to move the coolant tank to the side!! LOL That's why you didn't have the room needed to get the proper leverage on it. Let that be a lesson and now you could probably do it with your eyes closed. The oil filter cap just spun on my filter, was useless. I use a metal band type or the jaws.

Nope...Not gonna happen....you couldn't get an oil filter off...you have officialy lost all educator pimp status!!!

Always take the coolant over-flo bottle off and get it out of your way. Just don't tip it over with the one tubing off, coolant will flow out!

thanks for the info guys I learned alot.. I had the same prob too and on my truck I'll do it next time I change my oil. instead of channeling my anger at the wall I'll become one and get that sucker off

 

You guys that are having these issues getting your filters off, I got to ask, are you applying a thin coat of oil on the new filters rubber o-ring before you install it? If you don't the filter goes on "dry" and will literally stick to the housing and you'll have a bitch of a time getting your filter off.

 

Glad you got it off, for a second was getting worried you were turning it the wrong way. Like everybody else said just hand tighten it and don't torque it like crazy. Then next time forget all those tools and use your kung foo grip to get it off.
