I took the CMRA (Central Motorcycle Roadracing Association) licensing course this weekend at TWS (Texas World Speedway) with RideSmart.
Now I have to send in some cash for the anual member fees, complete a couple corner-working race days, and compete in at least 2 races during two separate race weekends, without crashing, and I will be a licensed Novice.
Pretty happy.

The weekend did have it's low points though, or should I say lowsides?
Yes, I effin' lowsided again in Turn 3 at TWS on Saturday. This time I lost the front attempting to make an outside pass in a corner. Another rider came into my line at a much slower pace. I went to give it a tad bit of brake in the apex and my front didn't like it one bit...straight on my head without warning. Bell Star helmets rock. Not even a flash of light on impact.
There had been an antifreeze spill in the race-line the session before and it wasn't absorbed until after my crash....nice. It may have contributed to my crash. I'm not really sure.

Luckily my girlfriend was Track Marshalling on Sunday when I was to take the Licensing Course, so I was able to borrow her 2009 ZX6-R for the day (with pink tape...YAY!:spank:) after much begging, and a little help from some of the instructors.
I hadn't ridden it on the track before, and it was a lot harder for me to move it around the track than my CBR. I was seriously paranoid about wadding her bike up as well, so I had to take it easy on Sunday.
A couple pics. Will post more when I get them.

Awesome...Many.......even here........forget this supposed to be a sport!
"Sport" bikes are great fun to ride and bond with "mod" and stunt in parking lots
but few are raced; I think its 17% see a track, and about 7% are raced.
(if somone has a current number chime in).

good luck........ few see real money, fame.......contracts.....but it goes like this

"I believe in love, and slammin on the brakes. Like a haunted child, I was born to race"

Written test was pretty easy if you read the rulebook a few times. Dirk will go over everything in class and emphasize what you need to remember.
The Mock Race is probably harder...depending on how you ride. I get sucked into the competitve mindset pretty easy, so it was difficult for me to take it easy and not try to fight for first place. Since I was on Candace's ZX6-R I had to chill. I can't run as fast on that thing, since I'm not familiar with it. BT003's are a bitch to turn-in compared to Michelin Race.

Any knucklehead can pass. Just remember, DON'T CRASH WHILE YOU'RE YELLOW-SHIRTING!!!! You can worry about being competitive after you meet the Prov Nov requirements.

The CBR is sitting in the garage. Haven't done anything with it yet. I'm headed to ECR tonight for the weekend. Gonna ride the streetbike...yikes. I'm really nervous about crashing it. It's so damn pretty. I'm gonna cry like a baby if I go down this weekend.

You riding ECR this weekend? What's your name? Are you on the local forums HPC, WFO?

I need right clip-on, bar-end, brake lever, throttle cables/assembly (gonna be a bitch to install), Radiator fill tube section, right Vortex peg, replacement crash spool on right, a new windscreen...and the race fairings.

It's not bad at all. replacement parts will be around $300 including a new race screen. I haven't decided what type of race fairings I'm running yet.
I'm debating on to go cheap with the Optimals, which is not what I want, or Armour Bodies, Sharkskins, Attack Performance(what I want). It's about money. I still got to get my suspension upgraded too.

It's just money, right?

My work, Seton Healthcare Network might sponsor me. I still have to work out the details and get approval. If so I will be flying their logo on each side of the race bike. I'm only trying for race fees from them. We'll see.

Thats not bad at all, Im on HPC same user name as here but I dont post too much. I wont be back at the track until mid May earliest as I will be a dad any day now. I had to go cheap with fairings and get the Optimals because I still need to do my front suspension. I figured with the money saved on the cheaper brand I could get Tony Ta to paint them too. We will have to meet up at a track day this year though.
