That's all vinyl? Looks good so far. Are you installing, or did your friend follow through with installing?

Do you know what kind of vinyl that is?

 

The guy doing this is a pro, provides vinyl wraps for a living, no way I could do this on my own material is Avery Deninson, made for use on cars and bike. Matte black and matte orange. I hope this helps.

I would love to hear how this turns out. I have heard from a vendor that is at all STT trackdays that full vinyl wraps on fairings are a no-no, but they have never said why it's a bad idea. Your pics don't look like full wraps though...

 

It is actually a full wrap. Both black and orange colors is Avery vinyl.

I'd love to hear why they avoid them though... I can't see how it would be a bad idea.

The shop installed these parts on the side of tank, which I am not sure about... Then he changed his mind again and removed it, along with the white stripes (which I loved). I think the stripes are going back on, because I liked the idea.

Pro's...
- Price, compared to paint
- and the fact that you can remove them any moment...

Con's...
- Bubbles... The fairing on the CBR has too many curves and specially under the headlights there's an "inside slope" (sorry for the term, couldnt find anything more accurate)... And the vinyl does not stick ffine there creating bubbles (big ones)
- Color variety.... nothing to say here...


Still... I would do it again!

 

Thanks for the info mate. I am hoping that this material would be good for the next 3 years, as the mate's car has been under this material for a long time with no issues at all. I think the bubble issue WILL present itself if a spot wasn't properly heated before fixing it to the bike.

Installation requires a certain temp to form the vinyl for a curve and initiate the bonding process. The good thing is that the color will always match the rest of the bike, unlike paint. So a piece that doesn't look good can be easily replaced, even a year later. I guess. We'll find out soon

Stompgrips refused to stick on the bike...been in my closet for years. Rear underside of the bike has been cleaned up, much more tidy. Gear ratios shortened. A few more stickers and roll on next Thursday for the trackday

how do the vinyls hold up with temps of stop-and-go riding/ i.e. traffic?

 

I don't have a clue about traffic temps, I will be riding it only at the track. The only place that I have concerns about is the lower, where the exhaust cat. is sitting near the fairing. I have installed a heatshield on the inside of that part...we will have to see how it holds up. What I do know is that the vinyl needs to reach 90 degrees celsius to begin the bonding process anyway, so it will hold up to some heat.

My lowers are plasti dipped with no shielding on the inside and they are fine. I'd assume the vinyl will be fine also
