So i put up a thread a while ago about a shaky front end at speeds greater than 110 mph. I recently replaced my front brakes and now it seems like the vibrations are worse than before. I dont believe it has anything to do with the actual brake pads, i feel like maybe something else happened during installation since i also took my front wheel off to check for damage or if the rim was bent. didnt seem to be bent and the rotors seemed straight. Anyone have any ideas?

how did you check the rim and rotors for straightness? are you feeling this vibration under braking or just while moving. is it all the time or sometimes?

have you checked the head bearings?(where your triple trees mount to the frame)?

Without a run out gauge you can't determine straightness.

It's a pain, but consider loosing the forks in the tripples and re-tightening. May have to remove fairings for that. May be unneccesary if you know the bike has never been crashed (forks have never taken force from an odd angle).

Do the front axle setting technique as described in the Honda shop manual (leave left fork boot pinch bolts undone while you pump the brakes and set the axle to prevent binding)

Inspect all the brake disc carriers for deflection/damage.

Torque caliper bolts to spec after the main axle bolt, not before.

Check front wheel spacers for damage or excessive wear.

All I can think of for now.

Take your front fender off and put a zip tie around your fork tube and direct the end you usually cut off at the rotor. Then cut the end of the zip tie off so its a c*nt hair away from the rotor. Then spin your wheel and watch the rotor againts the zip tie. See if its gets any closer or further away as you spin the wheel

Edit: Im assuming you have a front stand.

Wow all great tips!! i will try the zip tie idea, i never thought of that. i have a friend who has a front stand i can use, or i can just winch it up in the air. also when i changed the front brakes i did take the front wheel completely off. I didnt notice any glue on the rim where there could have been wheel weights though.

Get your wheel balanced first and see how you go.

Aside from the already suggested (and most likely) fixes, the wrong size front tire causes some vibration at higher speeds. 120/60 as compared to the stock 120/70. You already got some great info here, just thought I'd throw this out there.... just in case you recently got a new tire and there was some kind of mix-up..
