Where do u guys live that u can get 98 octane?.. the maximum highest u can get at the pump here is 94 and that is very hard to find anymore plus $.50 more expensive per gallon

Where do you live yanahmean? I'm assuming the US! Just as a heads up all other countries from the US calculate their octane rating differently than us. We use 2 factors and divide by 2(so an average) where everyone else just uses 1 factor that's lab derived. So octane raisins say in Australia would be higher than our 93 or 94 octane even though it's the same gas.

My honest opinion is to use the lowest octane gas that doesn't cause knocking! On my Ducati 91 does the trick anything more is a waste of money! I'm a motorcycle mechanic btw...the gas isn't any better quality wise the higher the octane. The only diff is the gas's opposition to detonation which is the fuels tendency to ignite at the outer edges of the piston(due to cylinder heat) after the fuel closest to spark plug ignites and before the flame from that would naturally reach that area. The knocking heard from that is the 2 flames meeting and the effect is damage to those outer edges of the piston(usually at the exhaust side of the piston which is the hottest part of the cylinder)! Anything higher than what u need to prevent that is a waste!

And as far as the cct...that's a definite possibility seeing as how the bike is 9 years old

Great info on the fuel ratings.
Yanahmean: if you dont mind, what was the cost on the clutch spring issue?
Also, when or even should I have the clutch plates and guts be looked at or switched out.

Question about the clutch/shifting... I have been told that your clutch/plates are in good condition if you can shift without using the clutch. I can do this. Is it good or bad? Or does it even mean anything?

Install and everything else idk yet.. you have to drain the oil to get it off so that's a factor too

Another noise u could here is the shaft that runs between the oil pump and water pump it has a T at the water pump end and it can get worn and chatter a little no biggy there tho

I may have to check this. Mines
Making a very similar noise but I believe mine is in the valves. Mine speeds up with rpms then goes away completely around 8 or 9 k. I have a 2007 with 6,000 miles

Hi guys, first post here but I thought i'd add to this thread rather than start a new one.

Is this the sound that people are describing:

I know the bike in the above video is not an RR, but I am experiencing the exact same sound at 3000rpm. A faint clicking. My bike is an '06 600RR.
Sound appears to be coming from RHS top end. Have just installed a new OEM CCT and no improvement.

Any suggestions would be fantastic. :banger:

mine sounds very similar to that but yours seems to start as your rev...mine does it at idle speeds up and then will go away above 8-9k rpm

Sounds like valve chatter! Did they time the cams or just throw a new chain on there?

Sound's like valve noise to me. When was the last time you changed your oil and had your valve clearances done?
